About the Club:Banbury Tennis Club is part of the Horton View Sports Ground to the south of Banbury, near the hospital. The ground is owned by the County Council and consists of a large field for football and cricket, a bowls club and tennis courts, all surrounded by housing. The tennis club has been in existence since 1973 and is the only tennis club in Banbury Town which has a population of around 45,000 people. The club has a growing squad of juniors and an active senior membership supporting teams in the Oxfordshire, Thames Valley and Banbury leagues. In the past the club has been very successful having reached the National Club Finals (Silk Cut) on two occasions. The club is friendly and not all members want to play in matches, just come to the club nights through the summer and enjoy a pleasant drink in the bar to finish off the evening. With several club nights during the week, matches on a Wednesdays and at weekends and the occasional social event, there should be something for everyone. The club operates all year round and several hardy members make use of the floodlit courts and play throughout the winter. Please note that visitors are ALWAYS WELCOME. There is a £3.00 fee for visitors who will be expected to join the club after three visits. Click here to read a copy of the Club Regulations. To read the Club Constitution click here.
About the Facilities:The tennis club facilities consist of six 'all weather' courts and a single room club house that has electricity and running water supplies. The house contains a kitchen area with a sink and fridge, for providing refreshments room to place tables for sitting and having tea after matches, and seats around the sides for placing personal equipment (rackets and bags). On entering the site, you first find a row of four courts that are fenced off. These are owned by the Council and are rented by the club. Two other courts have been built by the club and have floodlights which allows regular club play in the winter and early spring evenings. All courts are locked and access is gained by an online booking system. The site also contains a pavilion owned by the council, but it is mainly used and administered by a Bowls Club. Tennis Club members are able to use the pavilion facilities which include toilets, showers, changing rooms, bar and lounge. The changing rooms are mostly used by local cricket and football teams. A defibrillator is affixed to the pavilion front wall.
